Cloud Computing An Emerging Trend for 2009

Have you ever looked at a cloud and seen a dragon or a fish or a face? Have you ever looked at a cloud and seen your next level of Internet infrastructure? Cloud computing is quickly becoming a preferred option for small businesses who have outgrown their current computing and server capabilities.

Basically “cloud computing” is a shared infrastructure with a common access point used by multiple users from anywhere in the world.  Sun Microsystems sums it up this way:

Imagine scaling up instantly to massive capacities to meet changing needs. Then imagine doing it on the Web, without having to invest in new infrastructure, train new personnel, or license new software. That’s cloud computing, and Sun is making it a reality.

Cloud computing is becoming more and more attractive to small business as it allows them to upgrade to a more robust system without breaking the bank. Using a web hosted system is a great solution because you basically pay for what you use and the total cost is shared among other users.  Like most emerging technology there are still “bugs” to work out but we are well on our way to seeing a major advance in computing services for small business.
