Which would you rather have; 100 happy, satisfied visitors or top ten search engine placement? I understand top ten placement will bring you a lot of visitors, or at least in theory it should. That of course depends on the subject of your website.
After giving this question some careful thought I believe I would rather have the 100 happy, satisfied visitors. After all those happy customers have found what they are looking for and will probably refer my site to their friends and family. Happy customers talk up your website. Search engines don’t……..they just rank and list. Happy customers are more likely to purchase services and products again and again. They will also bookmark your site and if you have an opt-in email list, will probably sign up.
I know I may be rambling here and I suppose there are those who will argue this point and that is ok. Give me 20 or 30 niche sites with a hundred happy customers each and I will be very very happy…….
I have been reading Garry Conn’s blog for quite some time now and he offers a lot of good advice. I have been dealing mostly with larger websites for my money making efforts and have only just recently started to explore niche blogging for income. Garry has developed an eBook that I opted to purchase called “CyberCoders Wordpress Niche Guide” and I am going to put it to the test. I don’t doubt that if I follow his instructions I will be able to build a niche blog that generates income. He doesn’t promise overnight thousands like so many other ebooks and sites that offer advice. What Garry does is offer good solid advice.
So with that said I am going to use the Wordpress theme he has developed and follow his instructions and see what happens. I have registered a couple domain names in some niches that I think will do well. My goal is to set up one niche blog a week. Let’s jump in and see what happens.

I need help. I admit my monetization efforts seem to suck. I have several websites at the top of Google for their individual searches but my monetization has been less than stellar. I will give you an example.
Website is www.mybigmensclothes.com – as of a few minutes ago I did a search with the primary search term of “big mens clothes” and the site comes in at number 5 out of 2.7 million. Lots of Adwords ads down the side and on top. I have Adsense on the site but for some reason I do not get a high click through and earn about $10.00 a month. I also have LinkShare affiliate links that earn about $20.00 a month.
So here I am with a site that ranks very well and has a decent payout for Adsense clicks and good Affiliate programs but I am obviously missing something.
Does anyone want to help me out with some tips? I’ll trade you some of my SEO work for some of your monetization work……..
I have been using Adsense for the last year and a half and I think I am ready to expand beyond this single source of online income. I received an email from Chitika the other day expressing interest in placing ads on one of my sites. I had been doing quite a bit of reading on affiliate oriented blogs like Amit Mehta’s Super Affiliate Mindset and others. I also received an email from another search engine marketer wanting to place a text ad on one of my sites. ) and although I have been a member of CJ.com for quite a while I have decided to really dive in and see what they offer.
My contact at Pepper Jam Network has been very friendly and helpful. On one of my websites I have been wanting to set up an online affiliate store and she turned me on to PopShops.com which I have been experimenting with. I am excited about what the future holds. I am hoping to increase my online income significantly by the end of the year. Currently Adsense brings about $500 a month but more would certainly be nice.
I plan on diving into your affiliate oriented blogs and getting all the info I can from what you all have posted and hope to see a significant income increase by year end…… thanks for all the tips and all the inspiration you other bloggers provide…………..cheers…………..Eric
In 2007 I sold one of my real estate oriented websites for a mid 5 figure amount. This year I was contacted by the same group about the purchase of another one of my websites. That deal did not go through for reasons that were perfectly understandable. There are companies out there that have a specific set of criteria for the purchase of established websites. They would rather purchase a website that has been fully developed than spend the time and resources doing it themselves. These companies seek out websites that have been worked to the point that it is ranking well for their primary search terms, has a decent PR and has been around long enough to have “natural” inbound links from other sites giving it authority in the eyes of Google and others, and of course in a position to be monitized or already making money.
Today I asked them if they would be interested in providing me with the guidelines and areas of interest for the websites they like. I explained that I would undertake the development of a website in whatever industry they chose and to achieve the specific criteria they look for and in 12 months I would send them an email and let them look it over. I received a positive reply along with a list of industries they are interested in and what they require.
This is a long term “make money online” method. This is definitely not an overnight process, but if one is patient and works a website properly and institutes proven SEO techniques there just might be a nice payoff at the end of a year. If at that time they opt not to purchase the site, it is still making money by then so you really haven’t lost.
Has anyone else ever taken this approach to making money online? What are your success stories?
