Join W-Bot7 As He Crawls Your Website The First Time

Published by seo77 under SEO Lessons Learned

Hi. My name is W-Bot7 and I am here to check out your website. Since this is my first time visiting your website I hope I can find my way easily. You know sometimes when I come to someplace new I get confused because I start looking around and all of a sudden I run into a dead end and it can be difficult for me to back up. I am sure I won’t have that problem here because you have taken time to plan your website navigation so I can easily find my way around.

Hopefully you will put some things near the top of your code that will give me some idea about what your website is all about. Don’t give me too much info though….. I just get confused and it upsets me when I see the same words over and over again. When that happens I just leave. I suppose I am not a very patient crawler. Anyway, I have just arrived at your site and I am on the first line. I need you to tell me in just a few words what this page is about so I can file it away. You can do this by putting the title of your webpage in an area designated, you guessed it, title. Oh, and do me a favor please. As I visit your website in the future and start to explore other areas, don’t tell me each page has the same title. Like I said before that just confuses me and I don’t like to be confused and I just leave.

You can also leave me a description of what I can expect to find on the page along with a few words about the page subject. Please don’t try to fool me with extra words that don’t have anything to do with your page or site. Like I said before; I am temperamental and I am liable to get an attitude and leave. So now that you have told me what I can expect to find I can start my journey through your index page and hopefully onto other pages of your site. Remember, if you want me to follow the pathway through your site that you develop with you text links, be sure to say ROBOTS” CONTENT=”index, follow” that way it is in big letters and I can’t say I didn’t know.

Now that I have all of my directions and information about your webpage ready and locked in I am going to step on the gas and hit the road as they say.  I am hoping that I will run into some text that gives me more info about your site that way I can share it with my buddies back home at the data center.

Tomorrow I will let you know how my journey through your website is going………  see ya later…..   W-Bot7

Too Many Ads Are A Big Turn Off For Visitors

Published by seo77 under General, Online Marketing

Burst Media is reporting what a lot of us in the web-marketing world know but many refuse to accept. Too many ads on your blog or website turn visitors off.  A recent survey of more than 4,000 web users, by Burst Media on the topic of “ad clutter” revealed that most website visitors do not like sites that blast them with too many ads. In fact the study revealed that a staggering 75% of visitors have a negative view of sites with too many advertisements. The study also revealed the older the visitor the less tolerant they are of excessive advertising and that 2 ads appears to be about the normal acceptable limit for most people.

To read this entire report visit Burst Media

In the Make Money Online community this trend is very apparent. In fact if you look at most of the leading bloggers in the MMO genre you will find an overwhelming number of banner ads. If you visit the Digital Product Reporter Top 100 Links (formerly 45n5.com) you will see that the majority of the top blogs listed are very much ad intensive. I doubt they will stop running so many ads any time in the near future but it would be interesting to see how many visitors visit sites like JohnChow.com for the first time and immediately leave because of all the ads hitting them.

What is your opinion on website advertising? Do you have an “ad threshold” that makes you immediately hit the back button?
